Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights Should Not Be Breached

An anonymous commenter on my earlier post was bellyaching about higher education funding. I'm looking into just how Colorado funds higher education and what I would personally suggest for how to fix it. In the meantime, read this article which fully explains the whole issue.

UPDATE:
Start at the beginning:
The Colorado Constitution, in which you can find:
The Taxpayer's Bill of Rights and the section on:
Education Funding

Public schools are exempted from the effects of TABOR on their budgets, which is causing higher education funding to be squeezed. So, for one thing, those who are worried about higher education funding might consider the effect this exemption for public school spending had on the rest of the state budget. However, they might suggest a similar exemption for higher education rather than a repeal of the exemption for public schools.

Either way, the state government must be made to live within its means. Education funding should be a priority, given the effect of having a well educated populace has on the state as a whole. However, that funding must be spent in the best, most efficient way possible, and THAT's where the problem lies, both with spending in general and levels of education in the populace.
